A Brazilian binman was captured on camera performing an act of cruelty to an injured dog.
Instead of rescuing an injured dog from the side of the road where the binman was performing his trade, he threw the bewildered dog by its collar and chain into his waste truck.
The animal was presumably crushed to death with the rest of the rubbish.
Jadson James Franca, 35, ran the stray dog down, chained him by the neck, before dragging and throwing him into the back of the lorry to be crushed to death. According to reports the incident happened in north Brazil on a road in Presidente Figueiredo. The binman was laughing as he dragged the poor dog along the pavement and into the refuse lorry.
The mayor blames the people who captured the images of the cruel act for not interfering to stop the incident.
The binman responsible claims he was doing an act of kindness to a suffering animal. He was charged with animal cruelty and bailed.
The refuse collecting company has been fined.
TV presenter Xuxa who posted the pictures for the world to see wants something done by her Facebook followers.
The Metro reports:
Brazilian TV presenter Xuxa posted a picture on Facebook to her 4.4million Facebook followers.
She wrote: ‘This little dog, who wasn’t bothering anyone, had its legs broken, and in agony was tied up and dragged by the neck, before being brutally murdered by this individual, being thrown and crushed ALIVE in the back of the garbage truck.
‘This MONSTER can still appeal against a fine and will still be walking the streets in freedom! are we going to let that happen?? Let’s do something?? together we can.’
Yesterday Presidente Figueiredo’s mayor, Neilson da Cruz, told Brazil’s A Critica newspaper that the binman had been sacked and the refuse collection company, ViaLimpa, would face an unspecified fine.
Mr da Cruz also criticised the attitude of those who had filmed the atrocity yet not acted to prevent it.
He said: ‘These people are more preoccupied with making recordings that with saving the animals. This is an absurdity.’
Franca has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty and bailed, according to police chief Valnei Silva.
He said that the binman had claimed that he threw the dog into the truck as an act of kindness because the animal was ‘suffering greatly’ and ‘needed to be sacrificed’.
