Kansas sportsbooks will soon be available to residents in the state.

It was announced this week that sports betting will be available in Kansas before the start of the new NFL season, as it is set to launch on September 1, 2022.

Governor Laura Kelly made the announcement on Thursday afternoon as it revealed that in-person and online sports betting would be available at four state-owned casinos. The Kansas Lottery will oversee the sports betting operations and will fully open on September 8.

The four selected casinos are Boot Hill Casino & Resort in Ford County, near Dodge City; Kansas Star Casino in Mulvane; Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas; and Kansas Crossing Casino & Hotel in Pittsburg.

Kelly cited keeping sports bettors money within the state as one of the leading factors of the decision. Before now, residents of Kansas have had to use offshore sportsbooks or drive across state to regions such as Colorado to place their sports wagers.

“Legalizing sports betting is a common-sense solution that keeps Kansans’ money in Kansas and drives business to sporting events, casinos, restaurants, and other entertainment venues,” she said. “I want to thank all our partners for working with us to get this done in time for football season.”

The news will bring plenty of excitement to football fans in Kansas, who will now be able to use NFL sportsbooks to place wagers on the Kansas City Chiefs’ first game of the season against the Arizona Cardinals on September 11.

Stephanie Clayton, State Republican, added: “This is a huge draw for our local economy. I usually get pretty darn excited about anything that benefits us economically.”
