With sports betting on the rise and its popularity booming, the different states of the USA are taking steps towards legalizing sports betting sites across the country. Some states already offer sports betting, while others remain unmoving. We decided to look at the state of sports betting in Oklahoma and how it influences bettors; chances to use online sportsbooks.

We looked at the history of gambling and the current state of online sports betting laws. We also look at the different types of bets and payment options that online sportsbooks should offer.

Online Sportsbooks in Oklahoma

As matters currently stand, Oklahoma hasn’t legalized sports betting in the state. This means that no online casino or sportsbook is allowed to operate in the state of their servers are based in Oklahoma. Oklahoma’s resistance to legalizing sports betting started back in 1916 when all forms of gambling were declared illegal to try and prevent gambling-related violence.

It was only in 1982 that the state allowed pari-mutuel bets on horse racing, leading to a slightly more relaxed stance when it comes to gambling. However, although there are four racing tracks today in the state, local municipalities are also allowed to ban horse racing in their county, although none have done that so far. With the laws surrounding gambling becoming less strict, it opened up the possibility of other forms of gambling being allowed.

In 1987, the first high-stake bingo game was hosted by one of the Oklahoma tribes, the Choctaw tribe, and in 1992, various tribes partnered to offer lotteries, bingo, and gaming machines. Since then, almost every instance when a bill was presented to allow more forms of gambling, you would find some of the Oklahoma tribes as the driving force behind it.

The Oklahoma tribes first tried to legalize sports betting in 2013 but failed, and then again in 2020. Although the Otoe-Missouria and Comanche Nation tribes came close to having sports betting allowed in the state, the request was rejected after the initial approval. However, 2021 saw more tribes joining the effort to have sportsbooks legalized in the state. It seems that although sports betting isn’t allowed in the state, this might change in the near future.

However, the laws on online sports betting only refer to sportsbooks that are based in Oklahoma. It doesn’t refer to or mention any offshore sportsbooks, and as such, bettors can still place wagers using various offshore sports betting sites.

Betting Options

When we look at different real money sportsbooks, one of the most important factors is what betting types are offered to bettors. When betting on various sports, having multiple options available for the type of bet you make is crucial.

Available Sports and Leagues

Below, we have listed some of the most popular sports and leagues that you can bet on as an Oklahoma resident:

We’ll also be outlining the most popular bet types below, talking about how they work and what types of odds are offered.

Moneyline Betting

Probably the most straightforward bet of the lot, Moneyline bets wager on which team or participant will win the match. There are no margins to win by or other conditions, the team or participant you wagered on simply has to emerge as the match winners. This bet’s odds are presented in American odds format, with plus and minus odds denoting the favorites and underdogs. The higher the odds are, the less likely the team or participant is to win.

After extensive research and market-specific information has been considered, the bookmakers set these odds. A team or player’s game history is looked at, and the probability of them winning is calculated. If two teams in a match have the odds of +130 and -110, then the team with the plus odds is less likely to win, while the team with the minus odds is more likely to win. bettors need to bet the minus-odds amount to win $100, or they need to bet $100 to win the plus-odds amount.

Live Betting

When considering the different types of betting, live betting is one of the most popular ones. It is a midway point between betting at an actual bet shop or racetrack and making wagers online. Live betting refers to when bettors can make bets on games in real-time as they’re happening. Online sportsbooks will often provide HD streaming of the matches, allowing bettors to watch them from home and make bets relevant to what is currently happening.

This means new prop bets can become available based on how a match is going or a player is playing. It also means there are new betting opportunities for bettors who missed the pre-match bet cut-off time. Various bets are available in live betting, but some of the most frequently seen ones are prop bets.

Spread

Point Spread bets are commonly referred to as the spread on a game. Point Spread bets are usually employed when a major difference in ability is present between two teams. If the teams in a match have odds of +130 and -120, then it’s obvious who will most likely win the match. The teams are given a margin to win by to balance out these unequal odds, called the point spread. In order to average both teams’ odds to -110, certain restrictions are placed on their wins or losses.

The favorite to win will be given a certain number of points they need to win by, while the underdog will be given a certain number of points they need to avoid losing by. This means if the point spread for two teams is -7.5 (-110) and +7.5 (-110), the team with the minus point spread needs to win the game with7.5 or more points in order for the wager to succeed. The team with the plus odds needs to try and lose with a less than 7.5 points difference or just win the game outright for the wager to succeed.

Total Bet

In a total bet, the bettor isn’t betting on which team will win but rather what the combined points score will be at the end of the game. The bookmakers will look at a matchup and guess the number of points they believe both teams will score together. The bettor then wagers on whether he believes the points score will be over this amount or under it. That’s why this bet type is also commonly referred to as Over/Under bets.

In order to avoid a tie from happening, bookmakers will generally assign a half-point to their estimate, like stating that the over/under odds for a particular match is 8.5 points. bettors who bet over will need the match to end with nine or more points to win their wager, with an ending score like 5/4. bettors who bet under will need the match to end with eight or fewer points to win their wager, with a score like 3/4.

Future Bet

As the name suggests, a future bet is simply a bet made on a future event. This bet can predict who will be the final winner at the end of a season or who will win the Super Bowl this year. However, futures bets are long-term investments and require patience from the bettor. A futures bet will only be paid out at the end of the season or tournament, not when the applicable match you wagered on is over. As such, the bet can be made months in advance at times.

This also means that the odds on futures bets constantly change, as events happen throughout the season that influences the wagers’ outlook.

Prop Bets

One of the most versatile and popular bet types, prop bets, refer to bets that depend on specific events rather than a match’s outcome. Whether your bet succeeds or not will depend on whether the outcome you wagered on happened or not. This can refer to bets on which player will be declared player of the match, how many passing yards a player would have, or any other specific instance you wagered on.

As such, this bet is a favorite to use with live betting and parlay bets. Live bets look at what is currently happening in a match, and wagers are generated using that information. This includes several types of prop bets, as they can be on any specific occurrence in a match.

Parlay Bet

Parlay bets promise a high payout but come with extra risk. Making a parlay bet means you make multiple different bets on a single bet slip. All of the bets that were made on the bet slip need to result in a win for the bet slip to succeed. If even one bet results in a loss, the bettor will lose the entire bet slip, and there will be no winnings.

Oklahoma Sportsbooks Promotions and Bonuses

Another factor we consider is the sports betting bonuses and promotions offered at the Oklahoma online sportsbook. We look at a variety of bonuses offered, like the welcome bonus, VIP programs, cashback, and daily, weekly, and monthly promotions.

The most frequently offered bonuses are matched deposit bonuses. This is when a bettor makes a deposit and receives bonus funds between 100% and 500% up to a certain amount matching his deposit. The bonus funds can be used to wager together with the deposited amount.

Another bonus is free bets, which can be given as part of a matched deposit bonus or a no deposit bonus. Free bets are like bonus credits or tokens used to make wagers and are usually assigned a specific value. All bonus funds or credits also have restrictions applied to them. This can range from a minimum deposit, wagering requirements, expiry period, etc.

Withdrawals and Deposits at Oklahoma Online Sportsbooks

We regard the banking methods provided with the highest importance when betting real money. There are several popular payment methods frequently offered, which we have listed below.

Credit Cards and Debit Cards

One of the payment methods offered by almost all online sportsbooks, Mastercard and Visa cards, are usually available. US bettors might have some challenges when it comes to credit and debit cards, though, as the Federal Wire Act causes some card companies to reject any transaction with an online gambling service provider.

Prepaid Cards and E-wallets

Other payment options that are frequently seen are prepaid cards like Paysafecard and e-wallets like Much Better, Neteller, and Skrill. Although there might be some fees on these e-wallets, they are generally the better options to use, as their payout times are shorter, within one to three days. However, it should be kept in mind that some bonuses have payment restrictions on deposits using Neteller or Skrill. We have found the best Neteller betting sites and best Skrill betting sites for sports bettors to use.

PayPal

PayPal is one of the most popular payment methods for US residents, as it has low to no fees and offers fast payout times. It also stands as a middleman between the card companies or banks and the online gambling service provider. You can sign up to the best PayPal sportsbooks today.

Online Banking

While bank and wire transfers have the longest payout times, ranging from two days to seven days, it’s often the only withdrawal method available. This is especially true if your deposit method isn’t available for withdrawals. There are also usually fees from the bank’s side, but it is usually a reliable payment method.
