President Trump has made the bold and brave decision to pull out from the Paris climate accord, citing the fact that man-made global warming is a hoax.
According to two close Trump aides, the President has decided to put America first and stick two fingers up to the elite who he claims are trying to drain money from the U.S. economy in order to fulfil a globalist agenda.
“Obama thinks it’s the number one problem in the world today. I think it’s very low on the list,” Trump said on the Hugh Hewitt show in 2015.
“You know in the 1920s people talked about global cooling, they thought the earth was cooling. I believe there is weather and I believe there is change and I believe it goes up and it goes down and it goes up again and it changes depending on years and centuries.”
The withdrawal from the Paris climate deal comes just weeks after Trump told the United Nations that America would no longer fund its various climate change programs. It also comes after a top Obama aide confirmed that the Obama administration manipulated climate change data in order to “trick the public.”
Axios.com reports: Details on how the withdrawal will be executed are being worked out by a small team including EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt. They’re deciding on whether to initiate a full, formal withdrawal — which could take 3 years — or exit the underlying United Nations climate change treaty, which would be faster but more extreme.
Why this matters: Pulling out of Paris is the biggest thing Trump could do to unravel Obama’s climate legacy. It sends a combative signal to the rest of the world that America doesn’t prioritize climate change and threatens to unravel the ambition of the entire deal.
The other outliers: The only other two countries that aren’t supporting the deal are Nicaragua and Syria.
How it happened: A letter from 22 Republican Senators (including Mitch McConnell) that called for a clean exit had reinforced Trump’s instincts to withdraw, and the president had been telling confidants over the past week that he was going to pull out.
Trump’s last comment on the issue, sent this morning on Twitter: “I will be announcing my decision on the Paris Accord over the next few days. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
