“Westminster Coroners’ Court has started an inquest into the mysterious death of a nurse who was found dead after taking a hoax call about the health of British Duchess Kate Middleton during her first pregnancy in 2012.
Hospital receptionist, Jacintha Saldanha, was found dead in her nursing accommodation at a London hospital in December 2012, a few days after falling prey to a prank call from two Australian radio presenters pretending to be the British Queen and the Prince of Wales.
The nurse transferred the call to a colleague who revealed information about the condition of Prince William’s pregnant wife. The duchess was receiving treatment at the hospital for morning sickness at the time.
Saldanha apparently left a suicide note, blaming the Australian radio hosts for her death.
According to media reports, one of the pranksters, Mel Greig, voluntarily attended the inquest held at London’s Royal Courts of Justice on Thursday, 21 months after the death of Saldanha.
Earlier reports said the two Austrian radio presenters were not to give evidence at the Thursday hearing.
The inquest, which is expected to last two days, comes amid reports that the Duchess of Cambridge is pregnant with her second child.
Many analysts believe the story about Saldanha’s death to be fabricated as a prank call seems unlikely to have pushed the nurse to commit suicide, particularly near her workplace.”
