It was reported that Sinaloa cartel kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán had allegedly sent a message to the leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, threatening to destroy the terror organisation after one of his drug shipments went missing in the Middle East.
But it appears the ‘news’ was a hoax! Steve Charnock, a satirist who works for Thug Life Videos, told the MailOnline that he was behind the work of fiction, which ran on Nov. 30th.
“It was satire, faux news,” he said “It got a few shares on Facebook initially, but now it is the top story on some websites.”
Cartelblog.com, a website covering the war on drugs, carried the story, which was picked up by mainstream media outlets, including The New York Post, and went viral.
Below is the original story:
A Mexican blogger close to the Sinaloa cartel says that Lord Chapo is about to make a move on the terrorist organisation after a cartel shipment was destroyed in ISIS territory.
The price for interfering with the Mexican drug lord’s business is the unleashing of the cartels ‘True Terror’ on ISIS. El Chapo has vowed to rip out the ‘heart and tongue’ of any ‘son of a wh*re’ who tries to interfere with his business. El Chapo Guzman is currently on the run after escaping from a high security prison in July, the second escape by Guzman in 14 years from maximum security facilities in Mexico.
New York Post reports:
The world’s most wanted drug lord has declared war on the Islamic State, promising the terror group’s leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, that his narcotics cartel will wipe them off the planet.
News of the threat, purportedly issued from wherever El Chapo is hiding since busting out of a Mexican prison in July, was first reported in the US by cartelblog.com.
El Chapo — real name Joaquin Guzman, leader of the Sinaloa Cartel — is not incensed at ISIS being a vile, bloodthirsty death cult. Instead, the renegade drug lord is angry that ISIS destroyed one of his drug shipments somewhere in the Middle East.
“You [ISIS] are not soldiers,” El Chapo huffs in the leaked email, according to cartelblog.com.
Mexican blogger who intercepted the encrypted email has ties with the Sinaloa cartel says Breitbart:
“You [ISIS] are not soldiers. You are nothing but lowly p*ssies. Your god cannot save you from the true terror that my men will levy at you if you continue to impact my operation… My men will destroy you. The world is not yours to dictate. I pity the next son of a wh*re that tries to interfere with the business of the Sinaloa Cartel. I will have their heart and tongue torn from them.”
There is no readily available information indicating ISIS has destroyed any illegal drug shipments originating in Mexico, or belonging to the Sinaloa cartel in any way. The blog claims that ISIS is adamantly against narcotics, but there is ample evidence that ISIS fighters are operating under the influence of stimulants—specifically one called Captagon—that help them overcome fear and fatigue. In March, 2015, head of the Russian state anti-drug agency Victor Ivanov said in a press interview that ISIS made up to $1 billion annually from Afghan heroin trafficked through its territory.
This is not the first time major media outlets have posted stories about Guzmán that were not based on verified facts. In early October 2015, Breitbart Texas reported on a Yahoo! News story about El Chapo posting $100 million reward for Donald Trump. That story was based only on a series of Tweets and was quickly debunked. Currently, there is no reason to believe this leaked email from Guzmán to al Baghdadi exists, or that ISIS has destroyed any drug shipments belonging to the Sinaloa cartel.
