Betr have taken the next step toward launching its micro-betting platform.
The Jake Paul-led firm released a free-to-play version of the betting platform earlier this month that can be downloaded from either the Apple or Google Play stores. Betr is the world’s first micro-betting sportsbook explicitly designed for the activity.
Last month, the company announced they had raised $50 million in funding for the project, which will allow users of the app to place wagers on individual moments of sporting events that do not rely on the outcome of the event itself.
This is something that could prove to be popular within NFL betting, for example. Instead of betting on the moneyline, spread or total, users can instead bet on individual quarters and halves, or other prop bets such as who will score the next touchdown, the next team to score and the method of the next points scored.
Paul previously described the venture as the “TikTok-ification of sports betting” and are set to target a younger market audience that wants to be able to place instant, in-play wagers that do not rely on waiting until the end of the event.
The beta version of Betr allows micro-bettors to have a free trial of the platform before it initially launches in Ohio later this Fall. Joey Levy, Founder and CEO of Betr, says the first release will provide an insight into the future of sports betting in the United States.
“We view this free-to-play experience as a registration and onboarding platform to begin acquiring users mixed with an interactive tutorial for the future of sports betting,” he said.
“While this is very much an initial version that will get considerably better over time, we believe the experience released today provides a glimpse into the future of sports betting in the U.S. — an instant gratification focus to betting delivered in a simple, intuitive user experience that anyone can enjoy, even if they have not bet on sports before.”
Betr will look to challenge the more traditional online sportsbooks that offer the betting types that customers would ordinarily be more familiar with. In-play betting has been a common feature in bigger markets such as the United Kingdom but is still a relatively new concept in the U.S.
Alex Ursa, Head of Product at Betr, believes that this is the perfect way for beginners to open their sports betting experience.
“The future of the sports betting industry is finally here. What we launched today … is something new, different, and interesting,” said Ursa. “Betr is also the first betting app where someone who has never bet on sports before can dive right in and enjoy the experience with no learning curve and we are excited to finally be able to share it with the world.”
